Slowdive – Souvlaki

I'm glad that Slowdive is available on vinyl again. It's wrong to believe that all first pressings are of higher quality or better. We're talking about Slowdive vinyl from the eighties and nineties. At that time, vinyl wasn't valued as highly and was sometimes pressed more cheaply. Creation Records was one of the better labels at the time in terms of appreciation for vinyl, but this reissue is perfectly fine. Even compared to my original LP, which I bought in Hamburg in the nineties for 15 DM. Didn't they already use digital mastering back then? I don't hear much difference here compared to the first pressing.

Does anyone know how many of these were made? The Wikipedia page for the Blue Day comp says 1000 copies were released with the first CD pressing of Souvlaki. I could not verify this but curious if anyone else can.

sucks that its in a cardboard sleeve, i really like the original album art and would want it in a jewel case.

Meh, lazy reissue. Too bad. Give those tapes to someone who knows what they Re doing mastering wise.

So this is just a repress of the MOV not marketed as an MOV release? That’s disappointing, was hoping for a proper remaster, looks like it will never happen. The MOV is good, but ultimately sounds like the CD pressed to vinyl.

Playing this for the first time now and it’s a great pressing. Cardboard inner sleeve but vinyl is clean and noise free straight from the box, which is unusual. Lovely balance and detail, not too bassy and the vocals really shine. Happy to recommend.
