Notes
Originally released on September 12, 1980 in the UK, with catalog number "JETLP234," red and white band logo, featuring a photo on the back sleeve showing all the band.
Half a year later, on March 27, 1981, it was released in the US, with catalog number "JZ 36812," red band logo, featuring a live photo on the back sleeve (not showing Lee Kershlake).
It was recorded on a 16-track analog tape multitrack in six weeks. The recording began on March 22, 1980 at Ridge Farm Studios in rural Surrey, a residential facility based around a 17th-century farmhouse.
The initial producer, Chris Tsangarides, was relieved of his duties after a week, and the four band members would go on to co-produce the album, with Ridge Farm staffer Max Norman as engineer, recording in the converted barn that served as the main studio.
Witnessing the singer's self-destructive binges, Daisley was inspired to write the lyrics to what became one of the album's most famous songs, Suicide Solution. Ozzy wrote the opening line, 'Wine is fine but whisky's quicker' in reference to Ogden Nash's 'Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker.' Ozzy claims it was about AC/DC singer Bon Scott, who had died of acute alcohol poisoning on February 19, 1980. But Daisley says, "Bon Scott was a mate of mine, and he happened to die around about that time, but the lyrics were about Ozzy, because he was always getting out of it." This much, Ozzy does not deny. "I was going the same way as Bon Scott," he admits.
Title "Blizzard Of Ozz" refers to cocaine.
In 1983, less than a year after Sharon Osbourne fired him, Daisley worked on Ozzy's album Bark At The Moon. It resulted, Daisley says, from Sharon assisting him and Kerslake in a lawsuit against her father Don Arden and Jet Records. Daisley would also play bass on Ozzy's 1991 album No More Tears. But in 1997 he and Kerslake would sue the Osbournes for alleged non-payment of performance royalties. Sharon responded by having both Blizzard Of Ozz and Diary Of A Madman remixed in 2002, with Daisley and Kerslake's contributions replaced with new recordings from Ozzy's then-rhythm section bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Mike Bordin.
With the 2011 reissues of the albums, the original mixes have been restored. "I'm glad about that," Ozzy says. "I don't give a fuck if you've got Jesus Christ and Moses playing bass and drums, it ain't the same."
RIAA certification: 5x Platinum since February 4th, 2019.

This is the best Korean pressing of this amazing record. RIP Ozzy.- I owned a copy of an original US pressing, about 40 years ago. Of course I loved all of side 1, not a big fan of side 2. Typical that the best material is always front loaded on albums of the time, as well as now. However, once I traded it away, I never bothered to buy a reissue on vinyl, preferring to hear it from a CD, and even then, it’s been difficult to find a good sounding copy as it never sounded clear, or well recorded to me. At a time when recording technology gave us some great sounding records of the genre like “Back In Black” (AC/AC) or even “Dynasty” by KISS, “Blizzard of Ozz” sounds muffled and limp rather that clear, loud and kick ass. Various remastering, pressings and even the ridiculous 2011 remix featuring a new rhythm section, failed to bring this album to life. I think it sounds better over the radio than in a personal stereo. It’s a real pity because it’s a good album and deserved better. The original instruments are fine. It is the original mix that is at fault. It should be remixed by someone competent and the solution is not to make it louder, but to make it clearer, bring it to life. The fans deserve it.
- Excellent pressing, not mind blowing bit certainly stands up and punches where it need to. Slightly lacking low end to my ears. Definitely essential in any Ozzy’s fan collection. Even more so now as OG pressings prices are bound to spike with his passing.
- Edited 2 days agoSaw this at local record shop and in honor of the late, great Prince of Darkness, I bought it. On a listen, though I’m disappointed with this pressing, should have read comments first. Clean and flat but sounds muffled def not the way it is supposed to sound. As one review implied, "lifeless" which is an apt description. I’d pass on this one

Just found this in an antique store. Almost through the A side. Picture discs CAN sound bad and this isn't any different. It's not horrible, it's not great. Whatever. No skipping. Some surface noise. Whatever. Not bad for a 14 yo record found in an antique store. Fluance RT81 & Schiit Mani 2
Rest In Power, Ozzy 🦇 - This is the 30th Anniversary edition.
- All tracks has been restored and remastered from the original tapes. referencing Blizzard Of Ozz (LP, Album) JZ 36812
THIS is the penultimate way to listen to this album. Forget about the 40th Anniversary repress, forget about the colored-vinyl releases - THIS is the best, most dynamic pressing of this album I've ever heard.referencing Blizzard Of Ozz (LP, Album) 25AP 1992
RIP oz, thanks for everything. You will be missed 🕊️🖤- Surprisingly well recorded for this genre, with each instrument clearly defined and easy to locate within the soundstage. The overall tonality is neutral, offering excellent clarity, spatial separation, and a decent sense of depth.
