Reviews
- The original bong load had some different lyric lines on it. Was wondering if this was a reissue of the actual bong long mix or the geffen one.
- Very pleasantly surprised with the audio fidelity on display here. The overly distorted instrumentation on Soul Sucking Jerk sounds especially excellent. Very nice sound stage. Highly recommend.
- Looks like this has gone under the radar here in the UK, but I saw it appear on the US version of Amazon a few weeks ago and pre-ordered immediately. £33 inc delivery and tax. Shipped today and due to arrive by the end of this week…excited based on these reviews! To anyone outside of the US, amazon.com is your friend…
- Edited 7 days agoExcellent sounding press. Even comes in a poly lined inner! So happy to finally have this gem back on vinyl at last. I can only hope Interscope does the same with Midnite Vultures and The Information. Buy with confidence
- This is the pressing you want. Sounds SO good! Worth the wait and I’m glad I never paid a ridiculous amount for other versions
- Just gave this a first spin a few hours ago and it's flawless. No surface noise. Completely flat pressing. Didn't even have to clean it. Not a speck on it. Some people are saying it's quiet and you need to turn up the volume and I disagree. Sounds normal in the range of most of my other records. Psyched I got a copy as I've been waiting for a reissue for retail price.
System: Marantz Model 50, Rega P3 w/exact cartridge and Paradigm tower speakers. - Is this best pressing of Mellow Gold? I think it may be. I own an original that I bought from Bongload records through the mail in 1994/1995. I also own the 1997 “Mother Load” pressing. This new pressing sounds excellent. It may be mastered from a high res digital source, but it has great bass and clarity. The vinyl is quieter than my 94 or 97 pressings. I really noticed more clarity on “Whiskeyclone, Hotel City 1997”. I love how upfront and dry the guitars sound. It’s like they’re being played live in the corners of my room. “Truckdrivin Neighbors” has never sounded so huge! The other pressings are cool for collectability, but this new pressing is all you really need if you don’t own any others. Sounds great.
- Quality pressing especially for the price! Heavy vinyl in a poly lined sleeve with an insert. Dead quiet vinyl so if the mastering is quieter than other pressing just turn it up it’s a non issue, if anything it should increase the dynamic range. It’s great to have this back in print even better it was done right!
- I just brought mine home this morning. Loser seemed a bit quieter than the rest of the album. Other than that it sounded great first play with no wash and I usually need to do a wet wash with most new records, mostly for static. Whoever presses for these David Geffen 90s reissues does a good job.‘I’ve never had an issue with a Nirvana reissue either.
