Notes
Gala compiled the previously released Scar, Mad Love and Sweetness And Light 12"s with two previously unreleased tracks, a cover of Abba's "Hey Hey Helen" and a re-recorded version of "Scarlet" from "Scar". Among other things, the release was conceived to meet the demand of Japanese and US markets where the 12"s had not been released.

This is the worst sounding cd that I have ever heard in my life. I'm playing it now. It sounds extremely noisy. also overrated referencing Gala (CD, Compilation, Slipcase) CAD 0017CD
Does anybody know if there are any plans to reissue this individually, as the 3 studio albums were recently?referencing Gala (LP, Compilation) CAD 0017
It's a shame this wasn't also repressed with the albums...referencing Gala (LP, Compilation) CAD 0017
This is by far my favorite lp by the groop musically. Recording/pressing-wise, the record leaves much to be desired. It sounds very muffled, lo-fi, one-dimensional with very little separation between the instruments. Needs a full remaster on 2lps to bring out the sound, but love my o.g. copy nonetheless.- Edited one year ago

It's worth noting that the outer sleeve is printed on both sides... one of the insides appears to be a collage of antique cards with stylish Oriental women on them with a Lush logo on the other inner face.... Hardly anyone would ever notice, Vaughan Oliver at his most extravagant... A great record by the way, well worth owning.. referencing Gala (CD, Compilation, Slipcase) CAD 0017CD
Lush - Gala was advertised in the UK as "limited edition" when sold on the UK market... but I saw no evidence of that. There seemed to be plenty in record stores at the time.
It's a great compilation and a good way to get all the tracks from the band's first 2 EPs on 4AD as well as the "Scar" mini-album and the wonderful cover of Abba's "Hey Hey Helen" (which, as we all know, was the B-side to the indie anthem "Fernando" in 1975!).- Edited one year ago

I highly recommened this album for anyone starting to fall in love with Lush. It's a re-release of their first album "Scar" along with the B-sides from the singles from that album. I like this compilation of music from them, it was the first time I heard Lush stateside, and I think I enjoyed it more than if I had just listened to "Scar". - Edited 10 years ago

I first saw the video for Lush "Deluxe" on 120 Minutes one Sunday night, i skipped school the next day and bought the cassette. I listened to it so much, i wore the tape out. The album has been part of my life for 24 years and will be until the day i die. referencing Gala (CD, Compilation, Slipcase) CAD 0017CD
Originally a compilation made to introduce Lush to the US audiences, "Gala" is a must-have, although in addition to it any of their singles up to the compilation´s release is a collectors´ treat in itself. Collecting the entire early mini-album ("Scar"), plus accompanying singles from the 1989-90 era ("Mad Love" and "Sweetness & Light"), "Gala" also features some exclusive cuts unavailable elsewhere - these being a gorgeous, mutilating melodic assault on ABBA ("Hey Hey Helen") plus an all-together alternate version of "Scarlet" wrapped in a bossa-nova beat, which makes it sound like a nostalgic synth-pop classic. While later albums kept improving Lush´s sound and effort to be themselves rather then stereotyped as a "shoegaze" band, at first characterized by typically fuzzy electric guitar sound of the era (also pioneered by their peers - Ride and even more so, Pale Saints), the irresistible frenzy of their youth marks this collection simply perfect among their catalogue of releases.- Edited 13 years ago

In my opinion this is the ultimate "shoe gazer" album. It is just plain awesome. Not a bad track and still sounds great and probably always will. A masterpiece that every 4AD fan should have.
