There are two distinctly different pressings of this LP. The first pressing has two versions; the promo with B&W labels and stock sleeves with 'Promotional Not For Sale' printed on the cover, and the issue version with blue & yellow labels in a stock sleeve. Both have Ken Khouri (KK Mastering) scribed in the runouts, and sleeves are 'tip-on' heavyweight style (ie: paper slicks around heavy board), typical of 60's and 70's LPs.
The second pressing has all-in-one (glued seam) thinner gauge printed sleeves, labels are blue & yellow and has FULLERSOUND stamped in the run-out. Mike Fuller was a engineer/mastering engineer at Criteria Studios in Miami where the LP sessions were recorded. This second pressing was instigated by a member of the band, so technically it's not an 'unofficial' release, and this pressing was cut from mastertape, not vinyl. However, the presence of the Fullersound stamp almost certainly dates this pressing to 1986, when he left Criteria to set up his own mastering business, which was also in Miami. There may be a third (or should that be 2nd second pressing), which features the so-called 'slow-down' effect, but I only have the first two, so I can't say for sure. I have to say that on all copies of this album, at the end of the track "Evil Vibrations", the pitch of the harmony vocals gets progressively flatter and out of tune, but the tempo stays the same, rather than a drop-out or tape speed variation. Check the run-out matrix inscriptions. There are no indications as to where any version of the LP was pressed. I have recently come across a pressing plant called Allison South that was based in Opa-Locka, Miami but not sure it was operational at the time in '78, or opened in '79, so it's likely to be one of the plants in Nashville or Memphis.

More clarity is needed regarding which pressing is which.... This is evident just viewing the sales history for the first press. With some descriptions clearly verifying the vinyl for sale/sold is actually a repress. Therefore due to the skyrocketing prices of first pressing during the last 2-3 years, which has seen prices escalate from average £200 to £2,000 plus, for VG+ examples of this classic album. It's important there no misconceptions regarding the status of the pressing for sale.

The focus here is on [FULLERSOUND] stamped and/or [KK] scribed copies.

The promo and original vinyl [KK] scribed release is pressed on thick, black vinyl enclosed in a 'Tip-On Jacket' - i.e. with the printed artwork paper paste over cardboard sleeve which (unlike modern jackets) is normally not white on the inside.

Represses come enclosed in modern thin card (white on the inside sleeves), hence the artwork is printed on the card itself. The vinyl is thinner than the original pressings and lighter at approx 150g or less, and shinny. Regardless of the actual condition of the record, the whole look and feel is more modern.

Although confusion pervades between the represses with many thinking the thinner 150g, correctly stamped vinyl without the slowdown effect towards the end of Evil Vibrations' could be a first press, this is not so...... For avoidance of doubt. The thinner, lighter 150g vinyl [FULLERSOUND] stamped vinyl are REPRESSES and NOT original pressings.

It's also reasonable to assume the fault regarding some represses with the slow down effect towards the end of 'Evil Vibrations' is attributed to possible issues with master tape, lacquer /stamp. Hence, are likely to be the second/final batch of the second press /repress rather than the first.

I hope this adds further clarity to owners, sellers or potential buyers of the [FULLERSOUND] pressings.
